Calendar Girls - 21st June - Raised over £1500 for our Disaster Fund

(The £1500 is subject to our final checks)

We were delighted to welcome Tricia Stewart, one of the original Calendar Girls to talk to us in the Forum Cinema tonight. The Calendar Girls film was shown and Tricia talked about how it was made and answered some questions raffleas well as signing her book. Hedley Novis of Hexham Rotary chaired the evening which started at 6.15.

Hedley welcomed everyone and explained that the money raised from the evening would go into Hexham Rotary's Disaster Fund - a fund set up over a year ago to allow the club to respond quickly to major disasters. He pointed out that there was also a raffle with excellent prizes which would also help the fund and urged people to be generous.

signingHe then introduced Tricia Stewart who gave a most entertaining account of how the calendar started and the subsequent film, plays and musical. She explained the film was not a documentary but was based on true events but 40% was fiction. A call for extras for the background crowds resulted in over 2000 locals coming forward, but the village postman was played by himself!!

After her talk and in the interval before the film was shown, Tricia signed copies of her book before coming back on stage to draw the raffle. The film was then shown to great applause after which Tricia answered questions from the audience.

An excellent evening supporting a great cause. We will publish the money raised as soon as the figures are available.
